The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m.. The male offender, still unknown, approached the victim on foot, displayed his firearm and opened fire in the group’s direction, according to Chicago Police. The email additionally shared wellness resources for students, specifically for students on the second floor of Mertz Hall. Campus Ministry and Wellness Center counselors and ministers will be available for all students and will be present in Mertz, the email said.

“Please join me in prayer to St. Joseph, whose feast we celebrate today, to intercede for our grieving community and for the family of our beloved student Sheridan—and may his example of faithful, protective love inspire us to care tenderly for one another,” the email from President Reed said.

Loyola Campus Safety and the Chicago Police Department are actively investigating the incident.
