Loyola women’s basketball head coach Allison Guth stepped down from her position March 31, announced in an Instagram post on the official women’s basketball account.
Guth, who’s been head coach since the 2022-2023 season, said in an official statement her decision to leave the university was due to family reasons.
“It is with deep love and respect for the opportunity that I communicate my decision based on my personal need for more time with my family,” Guth said in the statement.
Over four seasons with the Ramblers, Guth boasted a 50-75 record. The women’s basketball team made two post season runs during her time — winning a single game in the conference tournament in 2024 and the historic run in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) this year where Loyola won multiple postseason games for the first time in program history.

The team’s WNIT run ended March 27 after a 71-62 loss to George Washington University in the Super 16.
This season, the Ramblers had their best record under Guth, going 9-9 in conference play with a 16-18 overall record.
During her tenure at Loyola, six of Guth’s players who’ve graduated have gone professional. Sitori [Tanin] Van Buren, Sam Galanopoulos, Emma and Sophia Nolan, Jess Finney and Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr all have professional careers overseas.
Guth served as an assistant coach for the Ramblers from 2005-2007 before picking up an assistant coaching job at the University of Missouri for a year. She then became the head coach at Yale University, leading the Bulldogs to five winning seasons before returning to Loyola in 2022.
Loyola Athletic Director Steve Watson released a statement on the departure of Guth and looks back on her impact on the program.
“We are incredibly grateful for all that Guth has contributed to the program,” Watson said. “She made a lasting impact on our student-athletes through her leadership, commitment and care. We wish her nothing but the best and thank her for her dedication to Loyola Chicago.”
Guth continued in her statement that she’s thankful for her time with the university.
“I could not be more indebted to our phenomenal student-athletes, staff and administration for the opportunity to lead our young women,” Guth said. “It has been an honor, and I will forever be supporting the continued success of Rambler Nation.”
Loyola Athletics said in the statement they will start looking for a new head coach immediately.
Loyola Athletics declined to comment further, or schedule interviews with current women’s basketball players or the assistant coaching staff.
