An update about the graffiti found in the Hillel Social room was provided by the university in an community email.
Loyola’s Division of Student Development sent an email to the Loyola community March 13 with updates regarding the antisemitic graffiti found in the Damen Student Center’s Hillel Social Room Feb. 2.
The graffiti found depicted a swastika, The Phoenix previously reported. The email stated the investigation into the swastika drawn was “inconclusive” but the Office for Equity and Compliance found another student responsible for drawing “other offensive images” in the room.
The student was referred to the Office of the Dean of Students and is “no longer part of the university.” Due to federal law, no specifics about the outcome of the investigation can be shared, according to the email.
The email stated Loyola remains diligent in combating all forms of hate and discrimination.
“As members of the Loyola community, we all have a shared responsibility to maintain a campus free from discrimination, where every student is free to learn and excel without fear of being targeted by discriminatory misconduct,” wrote Dr. Keith Champagne, the vice president for student development. “We do this by upholding our Jesuit values, which call upon all of us to care for one another and to reject all forms of hate.”
