The lights go off – boom. A whistle sounds, piquing the audience to the edge of their dimly lit Caesars Superdome seats.
A fury of white light suddenly fills the stadium as an enormous marching band with tubas and trombones ring through the crowd, playing the opening beat to song of the summer, “Not Like Us.” Entering from the side, a storm of dancers fill the stage, with renowned rapper Kendrick Lamar strutting down the middle, commanding the audience’s attention. As he raps each lyric, the lights fluctuate and flames pulse at each beat drop.
He strategically stops to let the audience sing along.
Picture it.
This high-energy opening number is just one potential entrance Lamar could choose to make when performing at the 2025 Super Bowl this February. Lamar is a great pick for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. He has the infamy, power, thought provoking lyrics and dynamic music needed for an amazing performance. Lamar makes sense.
The rap artist is known to be a strong performer who can bring a show to life. His concerts typically aren’t the most elaborate with minimal costumes or dancers, but he brings an energy that remains unmatched. For special occasions such as awards shows however, he’s shown he has the ability to command a busy stage with lights, pyrotechnics and dancers. As he proved at the 2018 Grammys, Lamar knows how to put on a show.
After his recent feud with Drake – which he brutally won – he will attract more eyes to the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl halftime show annually garners nearly as many viewers as the culminating game itself, as many people around the globe watch the event just for the musical performance. The Super Bowl is undeniably a spectacle. As Lamar is an artist already cemented in history with a legion of fans, his performance will draw huge viewership.
With Lamar’s complex mix of fame and infamy comes power. He’s steadily become one of the most respected rap artists of his generation, known for his flow and top-notch lyricism. Reverence for his talent has won him plenty of awards, including a Pulitzer Prize in music in 2018, and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, amongst others.
