Loyola women’s golf team teed off their spring season at the Texas State Invitational Feb. 3-4 in Blanco, Texas. The team finished fourth out of ten teams in their first tournament of the new season.

The Ramblers completed the fifty-four hole tournament with a total of 926 strokes (308-305-313). The host team, Texas State University, took first place, finishing with 899 strokes (310-295-294).

Individually, first-year Summer Lee of Oklahoma State University took the top spot with a total of 214 (71-69-74).

For the Ramblers, second-year Cassie Psuik led the team, finishing in eighth place. Psuik scored a total of 222 strokes (74-74-74) with 11 birdies. This score marks Psuik’s second top 10 finish this school year.

Finishing in 14th place was Jolie Brochu, who scored a total of 230 (74-76-80) with six birdies.

Head coach Brandy Johnston said Psuik’s and Brochu’s performances during the tournament were highlights, and she praised the team’s improvement from round one to round two.

“Cassie picked up right where she left off in the fall and posted two low rounds, while Jolie stayed steady,” Johnston said.

Fourth-year Cate Reisinger finished in 23rd place with a score of 133 (80-77-76). Next, first-year Grace Hui landed in a tie for 38th place with a total of 241 (80-78-83). Second-year Grace Durkin rounded out the team score, finishing with 261 (93-81-88) and a finish of 61st.

Individually for the Ramblers, first-year Madison Haugen finished in a tie for 55th with a total of 252 (84-85-83).

Johnston said the tournament and the play on the greens was a “great” start to their spring season.

“We played really solid golf on Monday by taking advantage of our birdie opportunities despite the challenging greens,” Johnston said. “We fought for every stroke and held on to fourth place in a tough field. Lots of positives to build off of as we prepare for our next invite.”

The Ramblers continue their season Feb. 21-23 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona, hosted by Western Michigan University.
