Women’s Golf Sets New 54-Hole Record

Loyola women’s golf traveled to Kewadin, Mich. to compete in the A-Ga-Ming Invitational Sept. 6-7. The Ramblers finished in a tie for fifth place out of 13 teams after three rounds of play. 

The first two rounds were solid for the Ramblers, with the team shooting eight over par in the first round and six over par in the second round, finishing in second place after the second day. Loyola stumbled in the third round, shooting 22-over-par and falling three places in the standings. 

Third-year Grace Hui led the Ramblers with a second place individual finish, ending with a score of -2 (-2, -3, +3). This is Hui’s second consecutive runner-up finish at a tournament and her fourth career top-10. Two under par is Hui’s new career-best and is the first time since the 2022 Cardinal Classic that a Rambler has finished an event under par. 

Head coach Brandy Johnston said Hui had a great tournament this weekend and a lot to be proud of. 

“She came back ready to play this year and has shown tremendous growth,” Johnston said. “Big things are in store for her.”

First-year Brooke Adams debuted for the Ramblers tied at 30th place with a score of +12 (+3, +3, +6). Second-year Maureen O’Leary shot +14 (+2, +5, +7), landing her just below Adams in 34th place. 

Tied for 41st with a score of +15 (+5, +4, +6) was second-year Robbin Zetrouer. Third-year Madison Haugen ended tied for 45th place with a score of +16 (+6, +2, +8), and first-year Sofia Afable, who competed individually, debuted with a score of +31 (+14, +9, +8), landing in 76th place. 

Johnston said the team played two great rounds this weekend, and the third round taught the team lessons they can take to their next tournament. 

“I was really happy with the second round in particular,” Johnston said. “The wind picked up quite a bit after the morning round, and we made the necessary adjustments. The third round got the best of us today.”

With a final team score of 36-over-par (+8, +6, +22), Loyola records their best 54-hole score since the 2022 Cardinal Classic. 

The Ramblers travel to Paducah, Ky. to take part in The Velvet Classic hosted by Murray State University Sept. 14-15.
