On this week’s episode of The Byline, a joint project between The Phoenix and WLUW 88.7, Host Will Nichols is joined by Sports Editor Claire Bovino and Deputy Sports Editor Alejandra Pina.
They discuss fall sports at Loyola such as men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf and women’s volleyball. In addition, they preview the basketball seasons for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Will Nichols is a second year student majoring in multimedia journalism and minoring in psychology. He is the podcast manager for the Phoenix and host of The Byline, along with regularly contributing to the arts section as a movie reviewer. Hailing from Lenexa, Kansas, Will loves watching the latest movies with friends and is seen regularly at sporting events and museums throughout Chicago.

Alejandra Piña is a third-year student studying Multimedia Journalism and Political Science. It’s her first year as deputy sports editor, but her third writing for the Phoenix. The Idaho native has aspirations to cover news and politics, but for now is enjoying learning more about the sports media industry. In her spare time, you can find Alejandra reading, drinking obscene amounts of coffee or FaceTiming her parents just to see her dog, Billy (legal name: Amelia).

Claire Bovino is a third-year student studying Political Science and Multimedia Journalism and is originally from Pittsburgh. This is her third year writing for the Phoenix and her first year as sports editor. When she’s not writing or watching sports, Claire can be found reading long fantasy novels by the lake, eating hot dogs or complaining about the state of Pittsburgh sports teams.
