Phoenix photographers take on a fall-inspired photo challenge in October.
As crisp breezes replaced days soaking in the summer sun, photographers at The Loyola Phoenix were challenged to capture moments depicting transformations throughout October.
From favorite seasonal drinks to memories of days gone by, Phoenix photographers highlighted the moments which bring us into a new era of the year.
Pumpkin Spice

Enjoying an iced pumpkin spice latte on the East Quad brings warm autumn flavor to a sunny day on campus. The drink is perfect for capturing the cozy feeling of fall as the seasons begin to change.
Metamorphosis

As the cool weather of fall sets in, the leaves on trees start to change. Vibrant greens shift into warm reds, oranges and yellows. Away goes the salty sweat of summer, and in comes the warm hearth of autumn.
Maroon and Gold

After Alumni Weekend, the statue commemorating the late Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, BVM was found donning her signature scarf in the school’s colors.

When Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus fills with yellow and maroon mums, it’s a clear sign autumn is coming. Representing friendship, luck and rebirth, these flowers are the perfect symbol of changing seasons.
Haven

Located right next to Lake Michigan, tired and stressed students will find their way to the expansive shoreline bordering Loyola and the Rogers Park neighborhood. The lapping waves on sand or stone have become a haven for many to step away from their daily life and reconnect with nature.
Nostalgia

Loyola graduates of all ages and their families were invited back to campus over Alumni Weekend to reminisce and relive. They enjoyed free food and activities on the West Quad, in addition to a beer garden in front of the Damen Student Center.

Sweater Weather

In the midst of declining weather, the PO Box Collective, an all-volunteer mutual aid and art hub located on Farwell and Glenwood avenues, welcomes the Rogers Park community to prepare with a warm clothing swap on Oct. 17. Through the rest of the month, they will continue their support by offering otherwise wasted food and hosting a memorial.
Spirit

No one has spirit quite like the Loyola Cheer and Dance teams. Whether in Gentile Arena or on Ignatius Plaza, these athletes can be depended on to show up and show out for Loyola.
Hearth

The hearth is the center of the home, keeping the home warm as it gets drearier outside. Since most Loyola housing accommodations don’t have fireplaces to gather around, students rely on each other to brighten darkening days.
