One Dead, Three Injured in Shooting Two Miles from Lake Shore Campus

A shooting in Pottawattomie Park led to the death of a 19-year-old female and the hospitalization of three others Sunday, Feb. 25.

A shooting in Pottawattomie Park, located approximately 1.8 miles northwest of Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, led to the death of a 19-year-old female and the hospitalization of three others Sunday, Feb. 25, according to the Chicago Police Department. 

Police responded to reports of a person who had been shot in Pottawattomie Park at approximately 3:34 p.m. It was then reported that the four adult victims were standing in the park when they were shot by two unknown offenders nearby. 

The deceased female was shot in the chest and transported to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition where she was then pronounced dead. 

A 22-year-old female was shot in her right foot, a 20-year-old male was shot in the forehead and a 19-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to his left hip during the incident. All three were transported to the hospital in good condition, according to CPD. The names of the victims have not been released. 

Following the shooting, the offenders fled northbound by foot on North Winchester Avenue. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing, as of Feb. 27.
