Today, more than 68 million people in the United States identify as Hispanic or Latino, making up roughly 20% of the nation’s population — a figure which has nearly doubled since the year 2000. How has the statistical reality of the growing Latino populations been met by this administrations aggressive immigration enforcement policies? What can a politically and civically empowered Latino population look like in Chicago?

On this week’s episode of The Byline, a joint project between The Phoenix and WLUW 88.7, host and engagement editor Dana Prodoehl is joined by deputy opinion editor Carlos Soto-Angulo to discuss these questions and more.
